You must visit Costa Rica to experience the most outstanding trip, traveling around a small country with a great variety of natural resources.  Over 25% of Costa Rica's national territory is protected by SINAC (the National System of Conservation Areas) which oversees all of the country's protected areas; Costa Rica has 161 parks and wildlife refuges, also possesses one of the greatest density of species in the world, our territory covers 0.03% of the planet´s surface and contains around 5% of world´s biodiversity.  These protected areas are the treasure of this country since thousands of tourists and local people come every year to witness these natural protected marvels, the most popular parks in Costa Rica are:  Poás Volcano, Manuel Antonio National Park, Tortuguero, Cahuita and Arenal Volcano.

 

Our country is majestically located in Central America and is a natural bridge of biodiversity between North and South America, surrounded at the west side by the Pacific Ocean (1.290 km of coastline extension) and to the east the Caribbean Sea (212 km of coastline extension), you may cross coast to coast from the Atlantic to the Pacific within four hours driving or 45min by plane.

Costa Rica has only 51.000 km² extension (19,730 square miles), the north border is with Nicaragua and Panamá to the south; plus 589 km² of territorial waters located in both oceans.
